Today as I was headed to the kindergarten room, I saw Carmel's reading teacher and decided to take a moment to have a impromptu parent/teacher conference. Since she is only Carmel's reading teacher, she doesn't participate in the parent teacher conference yet when you think about how much time Carmel spends with her - 1 hour/day I think she should be involved. Nothing comes home about how she is doing except for her schoolwork which she is always scoring near or perfect on. But it is hard to gauge where she is reading wise and I wanted to make sure I was giving her the right material. I was informed that she is at a 3rd grade reading level. The teacher adores her and says she and her pal Autumn take it all very seriously and she tries to get the two girls to smile some. Carmel is very serious when it comes to what ever she is working on. School, tumbling, reading, you name it.
Then as we were packing up to leave after the spotlight, Claire informed me she was bumped into a new reading group - an outside reading group. She is reading at a 2nd grade level. I cannot be more proud. Claire could read basic books - level 1's when school started and now she is reading The Boxcar Children series. She only needs help with a word every page or two. Crazy. She rocks it.
Needless to say, today was a great day as a mom. I don't think they are perfect but they make me proud with all the hard work they put in.
